Hello, my name is Tvisha Jani and I am the founder of STEM Praxis.
Throughout my middle school years, I was shocked by the gender gap in STEM clubs my school offered. In sixth grade, I remember excitedly hurrying to our school's Tech Room after school for the first meeting of the junior robotics team. To my surprise, I was one of just two girls who had come. While my curiosity and enthusiasm for robotics led me to continue participating in the club, my initial excitement had dimmed into mixed feelings of uncertainty.
A few years later, on my first day of freshman year, I delightfully walked into my AP Computer Science Principles class — excited to learn programming and create my own games. Once again, I was met with a situation my middle school self was all too familiar with, being one of five girls in a class of about twenty five students. However, instead of feeling discouraged, I felt empowered to make a change. The summer of my freshman year, I worked to create a platform where girls could access STEM resources in a friendly, comfortable environment. My main vision was to give middle school girls the opportunity to connect with other girls and learn STEM together, as a community makes all the difference. This led to the birth of STEM Praxis, a place where I hope to inspire younger girls to pursue their STEM passions, no matter the obstacles.
